Let’s pray that we could repair our racial tensions.
Let’s pray for small businesses. That they could pay their rent and their employees.
Let’s pray for our prisoners and law breakers and broken.
Let’s pray for our homeless population.
Let’s pray for our police officers and firemen and those who work so diligently to protect us.
Let’s pray for all of our national leaders. That they would listen to the people and to each other. That they would seek not to position, but to listen.
One of the reasons that I love coaching is that we, in sports, have been able to make it work. We have black, and white, and brown. We have liberals, and conservatives, and independents. We have rich, and poor. We have Christians, and Muslims, and atheists. And, most of the time, we have figured out how to get along in a highly competitive environment. So I know that it can be done.
But as I say that, I want to have compassion for those who are desperate:
So let’s purpose pray for those who have to worry about tomorrow—what they will eat, where they will live, and how they will survive.
Matthew 6 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
And as we do that, let’s ask ourselves—-
What can we do so that someone else can live out Matthew 6:34.
How can we help?
How can we aid them into being in a position to not be in a place of desperation?
Have a great week.
Seek the Living God and ask for His help in being a part of healing the broken.
In The Name of the Father and the
Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

As we enter 2021, I am calling the “David’s” of our generation to stand up and FIGHT.
Not with people.
But with the evil of our generation.
The evil of our generation would say:
You will never measure up.
But our God doesn’t say this. When He called David up, He said this:
1 Samuel 16 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
And so David responded. The son who defended the flock, who worshipped on the hillside, who followed dad’s orders … He was being trained for great things because his heart was fully the Lord’s.
The evil of our generation would say:
You will never defeat the evil in front of you.
But our God doesn’t say this. When He called David up, He said this:
1 Samuel 17 45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will hand you over to me, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”
And he did just that. Killing the monster of a man with the first “bullet”. And he stood on the hill, cut his head off, and made an example for everyone to see. Don’t ever mess with God. He is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah.
The evil of our generation would say:
You should live in a spirit of punishment and revenge. An “eye for an eye”.
But our God doesn’t say this. He called David to honor the king. And He claims that He OWNS revenge—not us. So David stood behind Saul—who wanted to kill him—and refrained.
1 Samuel 2410 This day you have seen with your own eyes how the Lord delivered you into my hands in the cave. Some urged me to kill you, but I spared you; I said, ‘I will not lift my hand against my master, because he is the Lord’s anointed.’
And Saul received mercy.
The evil of our generation would say:
You will never be promoted.
But our God doesn’t say this. He PROMOTES us before we earn it. He GIVES GRACE to us in our inequity. He walks as our friend.
Acts 13 22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’
And David flourished because he was a friend of God.
The evil of our generation would say:
I am behind you ONLY IF YOU WIN.
But our God doesn’t say this. He is behind us NO MATTER WHAT. He is our friend in weakness and in strength. In sin and in spirit. In all of our weaknesses He stands in the gap—and He HAS OUR BACK.
1 Samuel 30 3 When David and his men came to Ziklag, they found it destroyed by fire and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. 4 So David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep … 6 David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.
And though David had no loyalty from men, the loyalty of God saved him.
The evil of our generation would say:
Don’t Be A Fool!
But our God doesn’t say this. He says that we who worship deeply truly understand the forgiveness that we have been given.
2 Samuel 6 16 As the ark of the Lord was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she despised him in her heart.
And so David danced. And worshipped. And walked as God’s friend.
The evil of our generation would say:
You can’t go back from your mistakes. It says: “It is too late to go back now.”
But our God doesn’t say this. He says come back to me. And I will renew you and restore you. I will put a new heart in you.
Psalm 51 10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
And so David blew it. And he paid a hefty price. But God took him back—and he loved him deeply.
You are called.
And your life is sacred.
And your future has hope.
Do not let go of the Lord.
And don’t ever, ever, ever, let the enemy tell you who you are.
You belong to God and God alone.
In The Name of the Father and the
Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

As he took his son to the mountaintop in sheer obedience to God and going against all of his dreams … He knew.
Hebrews 11 17 By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, 18even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” 19Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death.
He knew that God was all that he had. That without God, He had now hope and no future.
And he knew to the point that he believed in resurrection before resurrection was even a thing. God had promised him that he would bless his offspring through Isaac … so he knew.
David knew.
When he gathered up 5 stones I like to think of Chuck Missler’s explanation:
“He had heard that Goliath had four brothers.” But, regardless of this, David knew. He knew that with God behind Him, he had nothing to fear from a giant of a man.
And so he went, and confronted the Philistine, and cut his head off in front of two armies.
And my wife recently pointed me to this verse in Isaiah and the 6 qualities of Jesus.
Isaiah knew.
Isaiah 111 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him- the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD – 3 and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; 4 but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.5 Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.
And all of them knew before Jesus came to be in the flesh.
I love what Isaiah says about Jesus:
He has the Spirit of WISDOM … and UNDERSTANDING.
He has the Spirit of COUNSEL … and POWER.
He has the Spirit of KNOWLEDGE … and THE FEAR OF THE LORD.
We have all that we need to walk in the Lord in 2021.
And as we enter into a new season, I want to encourage you to walk in the fear of the Lord and ask God to give you everything else that you need to move forward.
The Fear in front of us is like a rabid pitbull on a chain. It hates us, it threatens us, and it shows its ugly teeth, even charging to constantly test the strength and grip of that chain. And, in essence, our strength to move forward.
But the Fear behind us is an unchained Male African Lion. He is untethered, unafraid, and lying in wait.
For us to back away from a 60 pound pitbull into the grip of a 550 pound Lion is utterly foolish.
And yet, we do.
As we walk into 2021, I want you to encourage you.
God is with you.
He overrides all that you fear and holds all that you love in the palm of His hands.
He fears no man and Kings will bow down to Him.
His provision is abundant … He owns the cattle on a thousand hills.
He scoffs at death and defeats the enemy’s plan to indict you for all of your shortcomings.
And He lies in wait until the right time to come to the forefront.
And so I must ask:
Do You Know?
In The Name of the Father and the
Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Mark 6 he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. 3 “Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him, that he even does miracles! Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.
All of us must decide if this is an ancient story or the very thing that we need … Our only hope.
To me, Jesus is Our Only Hope.
It was hard to fathom when He told me to pull off at the exit as I was driving to California … but when I met the man with no legs trying to change his tire —- I understood.
It was hard to fathom when He told my wife and I NOT TO DECLARE BANKRUPCY IN 2008, but when we came to the other side many years later—- I understood.
It was hard to fathom when He told me to speak at my father’s funeral in 2010. But when He used that very action to heal me —- I understood.
I think Einstein must have struggled with this also. When he said: “There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” He, too, had to have been thinking about the divine, the miraculous.
So what do you think?
Read before and beyond this Mark 6 verse.
Ask God to convict you. To show you.
The reason that they asked is the very reason that you should.
When this Christianity became a thing 2000 years ago it was just that …
The men and women who knew Him, and walked with Him, and watched Him preach, and saw Him do miracles, and watched Him rise from the dead …
They Became The Champions Of A New Faith
It Became Their Single Minded View
Their New Hope
And It Was Based On That Question:
Isn’t He This The Carpenter?
YES. YES. THIS Is The Carpenter.
In The Name of the Father and the
Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Jesus tells us: “In this world you will have trouble … but take heart, I have overcome the world.”
And He has.
But in the writings of Mark, even the most obedient and loyal disciples found themselves in a storm.
Mark 4 35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
Sometimes I am guilty of asking God, “why me?”
Sometimes WHEN I am walking in the right direction, I feel punished. But God isn’t at our beck and call. And, thankfully, He doesn’t bless us when we do well and curse us when we don’t.
The reality is that we will walk into, and be overwhelmed by, storms.
And the storms challenge us in every way … especially when we let them.
True, we can not control the storm itself.
But we can control the way we react to it.
Take the disciples … they became overcome with fear, and even doubted their ability to get to the other side.
But Jesus had told them: “Let’s go to the other side”
So they knew they were going there with a man who had already proven Himself. And the fact that He was sleeping was not inspiring to them — but it should have been.
Jesus isn’t sleeping through your storm. He isn’t callous to it. And He isn’t punishing you.
The reality is this:
Jesus’ promises to you and over you and about you aren’t voided because of the storm. NEVER let the situation overwhelm the Promise. Because it is in His PROMISES that you have hope!
Jesus doesn’t speak to the storm until they speak to Him. Often times we tell everyone else about our issues — but not Him. Remember— God is a gentleman. He doesn’t get involved in affairs that He is not invited to. Call on Him to speak to your storm.
After He calmed it — then they were even more afraid. And all of us should have a healthy fear for the “Lion of the Tribe of Judah”. I am afraid of many things. But I have to remind myself: “He owns the cattle on a thousand hills” — He is quick to forgive and easy to call on. In His hand is my destiny and the destiny of all. He Is Worthy of my praise … And yours.
I pray for you today.
And I ask that you pray for me.
We don’t always need rescuing from our storms. But we ALWAYS need rescuing from ourselves … and others.
He is up for the task.
And He is the keeper of our eternities.
May He bless you … and keep you … and make His face to shine upon you. May you find favor in His presence … and worship … in SPIRIT and IN TRUTH.
In The Name of the Father and the
Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

At some point you have to decide where your line is.
In other words … where is too far too far?
And each of us must consult with God and make a stand.
For three men in a “not so different scenario” than what we face today—they had decided.
Enough was enough.
God was God.
And sooner or later I must decide Who I stand with and who I stand for.
So Who do you stand for?
I stand for Jesus.
I stand for celebrating His rule over my life.
I stand for doing what He says above what others might say.
And when I feel weary about doing so, I read their story.
Daniel 3 16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”
The gospel of Jesus stands much like the behavior of these three men.
As I stood in worship today, God put these things on my heart. Today, I will keep it simple and leave you with these thoughts:
Know What You Stand For. There is so much that will test you and push you, and a wise friend once told me to ask, “is this the mountain that I am willing to die on?” So many times, I have decided that it was not. And God has clearly told me: if it is not—-move on and never worry about it again. But then there is the other. There is the Shadrach Meshach and Abednego moment—and it is where we MUST stand, where we MUST be willing to fight and stand up. To know what you stand for is driven by one simple things: WHO you stand for. Jesus has given you life—and He IS the way and the truth and the life.
Honor And Conviction. The reaction to Nebuchadnezzar is communicated with honor and conviction and it is much like what Jesus said to men who would be kicked out of the temple on His behalf. As men exited the temple, they were given a full on slap across the mouth, as both an insult and as physical punishment, on their way out the door. Jesus told them to not only take one — but two slaps in the face. I personally LOVE this about Jesus. It says, “I will honor you, but I am so committed to what I am standing for that I will take double the punishment.” Honor AND Conviction.
Worship The Miracle WORKER, Not The Miracle. As Jesus was confronted to be trapped, He called out men for looking for “signs”. Matthew 16 “4A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away.” Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego made it clear—-”even if He doesn’t … “ Perhaps the greatest three words in this scripture … They stood for God alone—no matter what it cost.
God covers us in grace.
He is slow to anger QUICK to love. He is the only friend you can ever, truly, trust.
So I will end this blog with this.
The world may be coming unraveled. We may be losing our convictions and our morals. Greed may rule the day. The lust of the flesh might be strong. But God’s grace is great enough for all of it.
MOVE ON and MOVE FORWARD.
As the New England Patriots walked away from a brutal pummeling at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs, they moved on. The famous phrase came about:
“We are on to Cincinnati”
If you go on Youtube and play that phrase, you can see exactly what that means.
At the end of the day, this is the gospel for all of us. It is turning the page on all that was lost, or ruined, or hurtful, and it is truly moving on. It is taking the pieces of our broken past and letting God paint a masterpiece with our lousy art work …
And becoming victorious. As you watch this video, it isn’t that entertaining. But moving on and moving forward lead that team to a Super Bowl Championship. Being able to move on … and move forward is what God gives to all of us … every day.
In The Name of the Father and the
Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

When Ezekiel saw Jesus as he described in Ezekiel 10, it must have been overwhelming.
Ezekiel 10 14 Each of the cherubim had four faces: One face was that of a cherub, the second the face of a man, the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.
The God of the universe was showing Ezekiel the future. He was showing the God described in the book of Mark, Luke, Matthew, and John.
And the gospel of Mark describes Jesus last time with His disciples:
Mark 1432 They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. 34 “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”
35 Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. 36 “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”
37 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour? 38 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
39 Once more he went away and prayed the same thing. 40 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. They did not know what to say to him.
41 Returning the third time, he said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come. Look, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
Hours after their inability to stay awake, Jesus was gone.
They dragged Him off that hill.
They put Him in a trial.
They beat Him.
And they killed Him.
The time passed quickly and there was no going back.
He had come.
Ministered.
Obeyed.
And sacrificed.
And yet … their sleeping at the wheel could not stop the Living God from carrying out His plan to save them.
Where Do You Stand Today As You View Our World?
Are you asleep as God waits for you to pray and stand watch?
I ask that question because it is what I asked myself this morning.
As we face off with Covid
And political climate
And the unknown future
If you are crying out as I have been, then I ask you: What do you cry out for?
I tell you: The Time Is Now.
If you cry out for JUSTICE, I want to warn you. Be careful what you wish for … In the world ruled by JUSTICE you will be guilty… And the very thing that you crave for others will be applied to you. And you will be guilty as charged.
If you cry out for MERCY, I want to warn you. Be careful what you wish for … In the world ruled by MERCY there will be no rules–no accountability. The MERCY that you crave will destroy us. It will bring lawlessness and rebellion. No one will be afraid to break the rules because there will be no accountability for them.
And so what shall you cry out for?
JESUS
For He is the perfect mixture of JUSTICE and MERCY.
HE is The HOPE of Nations.
HE is No RESPECTER of men.
HE is NOT AFRAID of Kings or Governors or Presidents or Soldiers.
HE is UNDAUNTED, even without power. What could possibly make Him afraid when He stands as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah?
The Time Is Now.
Ask Him to fix your world … our world.
The Kingdom of God begins with ONE and spreads out to the multitudes from there.
The Time Is Now.
In The Name of the Father and the
Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

As I sat in my quiet time this weekend, I had questions in my heart that I felt no one could answer.
The world is fighting the Corona Virus and the response to the Corona Virus.
Two people close to me have gotten the virus, yet I am still more worried about how officials respond to the virus than the virus itself.
The news outlets are so biased that they would not dare criticize the agenda that they are pushing. Who is truly giving us the truth?
So I simply wrote down:
Who Can We Trust?
What Do I Do?
Where Do I Belong?
When Will The Chaos End?
Why Are We Facing All Of This?
As I finished writing the last question, God began to work me over, and my conviction to turn to Him, to trust in Him, and to worship Him became greater than ever.
I also became filled with joy.
I know what He wants me to do.
And though I don’t know the outcome of where I am going, I think it is only fair to say that that is a blessing! Because knowing the outcome is not only not what we need —- it isn’t what we want either.
John 2:25 says that Jesus withdrew from men because “He knew what was in men … “ In other words, He withdrew from men because He knew that He could find no encouragement there.
I encourage you to do the same.
To draw encouragement from the world right now would be like trying to quench your thirst by eating 5 saltine crackers. It will leave you longing for more and make the problem worse.
So what are we to do?
What?
At the risk of sounding like a simpleton, I leave you with this.
Colossians 323 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men
Jesus mentions throughout scripture that we are not to build on things that do not last…
To build our houses on solid ground
To not seek to gain the whole world
To seek Him and His Kingdom above all things
He is the Way
And the Truth
And the Life
And whoever comes to Him shall never be thirsty again … Shall find the living water … Has an entrance into heaven … Will have a home and a place to belong and someone who believes in them
So work hard … And work hard for His glory … For His glory alone.
In The Name of the Father and the
Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I also became filled with joy.
I know who I belong to.
I know where I am going.
And I know that He is the King of the universe.
And in those three things I am MORE CERTAIN THAN EVER.
Today, I would like to talk about WHO. Who Can We Trust?
Who Can We Trust?
Picture one of the most volatile and dangerous places in the world.
The African Savanna.
Prey and predator. On constant alert. Danger in the day. Even more danger in the night. And animals that can kill with the utmost efficiency.
The Black Mamba. The Tsetse fly. Hyenas. Cheetahs. Leopards. Wild Dogs. Crocodiles. Hippos. Elephants. Cape Buffalo.
The list goes on.
And yet. In the middle of the chaos, in the middle of the day, in the midst of all of this — the Lion sleeps. And he sleeps in broad daylight in the middle of the savanna without a care in the world.
So much about Jesus describes WHAT HE DID as a Lamb:
He was PIERCED for our transgressions. (Psalm 22)
He was like a LAMB being lead to slaughter. (Isaiah 53)
Our SIN is as far as the east is from the west. (Psalm 123)
His MERCIES are new every morning. (Lamentations 3)
I could write these scriptures all day.
Willingly. In the midst of the storm. And without hesitation.
He paid that we might have THE GIFT.
And there are just as many scriptures about Jesus and WHAT HE IS GOING TO DO as the Lion:
He IS the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
But He is also:
The Lion Of The Tribe Of Judah
Revelation 55Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
Revelation 19 11I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
Jesus has not yet returned as the Lion … But my thought is this: He was an INCREDIBLE lamb. And He is going to be an AN EVEN BETTER Lion.
As I process what that lion on the savannah looks like, I have hope that wells up inside of me.
Unlike in the world … He with the MOST POWER has the MOST GRACE.
Jesus IS THE LION OF THE TRIBE OF JUDAH …
But He is quick to forgive
And He is Slow to anger
And He is Abundant in grace and mercy
Scripture even says that AS SIN GROWS, His grace will grow more.
Governments and Kings are not above The King.
Money can not buy Him off.
And manipulation and lies can not deceive Him.
Jesus told people that He was the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
He cut no corners and made no compromises.
And He staked His claim on all that He professed AT THE EXPENSE of Himself … As the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
Our society fears everything BUT Him. But I am not afraid of society. I am afraid of society HATING ME OR ANYONE ELSE for proclaiming Him. I am afraid because we belong to the King. And though He sleeps in the middle of the savannah … He will someday rise up … those who mess with His will have to deal with a lion.
Who Do You Belong To?
If it isn’t Him … change that. Right now. He will bring you into the pride —
Just as you are
Without hesitation
And with more love than you could ever need
In The Name of the Father and the
Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
