2 MINUTE WARNING

WITH DOUG JOHNSON

512 By Your Grace

Sometimes it is the simple things that bring us to the feet of the Father.

In my world, it seems like it is the mistakes.

And then Jesus shows up.

Hebrews 10 14 For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

As I listened to an amazing country singer, his lyrics summed this verse up perfectly.

“I’ve got a long way to go …

But Lord I know …

There’s not a step I’m gonna take …

Where You’re not with me … ”

We are not called to sit and be perfect.

We are not called to leave our beliefs and live in sin.

And so any of us who live in that balance must wonder how we can possibly measure up … Lord, how in the world can I do this?

Sitting and doing NOTHING is a sin.

And IN MY ACTIONS I simply blow it.

So where can I go?

I can go to Hebrews 10:14.

I can go to the cross.

Because He didn’t die to give us a personality transplant.

He died because He wants to make us the best version of ourselves.

And in that, there is a freedom like none you can find anywhere on planet earth.

Thank You Jesus.  You have saved my soul.

And in the words of Cody Johnson:

“I’ve got a long way to go …

But Lord I know …

There’s not a step I’m gonna take …

Where You’re not with me … ”

In The Name of the Father and the

Son and the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

  1.  He Was Driven From The Synagogue To Tell You

Isaiah 61 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me To …

He Is Beyond Your Idea Of Time

When Jesus uttered “today this prophesy has been fulfilled” He was claiming to be God.  But more than that, Jesus was saying, just as it says in John 1, I was with God in the beginning … the Genesis 1 beginning.  SHOCKING!  Read Isaiah 61 and then Luke 4:16-19.

  1.  He Destroyed The Temple Passover To Tell You

John 2 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.

He Cares About Injustice

In the most tyrannical political system that we could imagine, ONE man started a riot.  In John 2 and Isaiah 61, Jesus begins a ministry that sets in motion his road to a brutal execution.  He knows this, yet STAYS THE COURSE.  Read John 2.

  1.  He Touched A Leper To Tell You

Matthew 8 2 A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”

3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,”

He Is Not Afraid Of Your Mess

How can this Royal Official do this?  This is like the president of the United States climbing, in his suit, down into sewer to hug those covered in their mess.

  1.  He Met A Reject At The Well To Tell You

John 4 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

He’s Not In Your Group

In John 4, Jesus shows that He Cares NOTHING About Your Gender, Political Affiliations, Socio Economic Status, Popularity, or any of it.  When you realize this—you won’t want it anymore either!  Read John 4.

  1.  He Said It Is Finished To Tell You

John 19 30 “It is finished.”

He Is Paying Your ENTIRE Bill

The bottom line:  You owe 50 Billion dollars and He is going to pay it off in one swoop.  Unfathomable!  Take an assessment of your life and decide if you need this Jesus.

492 Tetelestai

So much of what Jesus taught about referenced money.  It was his way to teach us in a way that we could understand.  And when He walked into the Temple on Passover and cleared it out, He showed everyone how much He cared about money.

It wasn’t just about the money to Him.

It was the idea of people getting ripped off.

And He was to have none of it.

And so He made His cord and sent everyone into backpedal mode.

Fast forward to the end of Jesus ministry.  This action at the temple directly lead to Him being executed.  And in His last moments, He was executed in the most humiliating fashion.

The meaning of the word Tetelestai in the Greek is “it is finished”.  It is the final words of Jesus as recorded in John 19:30.  It makes sense that this was the last thing uttered by Jesus on the cross as He gave up His life.

The interesting part about this is that this is not the only way Tetelestai was used.  The Greek word “tetelestai” was also used in business during Jesus’ time to indicate a debt or bill had been paid in full.  And this changes this entire situation, especially to the seeker.

As I saw this beautiful word on a tattoo yesterday, it brought up an interesting conversation at track practice.  In conversation with a young man who I coach and who I know very well, I asked:  “Why would someone utter ‘IT IS PAID IN FULL’ right before they died?”

There is only one thing that makes sense to me.

Jesus died for me (and you) to pay off a debt that we couldn’t.

He paid debts that we owe, and continue to owe.

But Romans 5 states:

Romans 5 20 The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more

The trespass?  It is Paid In Full.

I can’t outdo on the evil side what He did on the side of grace…and neither can you.

This is incredible.

And it is my testimony moving forward.

He can forgive.

He can forgive me and He can forgive you.

For God is the ONLY one who can set out in a situation and make it so all of us can win.

Thank You Jesus.
