Every world leader consumed with evil looks the same.

And as I read this passage this week … it was no different with Nebuchadnezzar:

Ezekiel 26 7 “For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: From the north I am going to bring against Tyre Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, king of kings, with horses and chariots, with horsemen and a great army. 8 He will ravage your settlements … he will set up siege works against you … raise his shields against you. 9 He will direct the blows of his battering rams against your walls and demolish your towers … 10 His horses will be so many that they will cover you with dust. Your walls will tremble … 11 The hooves of his horses will trample all your streets; he will kill your people with the sword … 13 I will put an end to your noisy songs …

He was insatiable and he destroyed a city and a people with a harshness that could not be fathomed.

And as I read this, I couldn’t help but think about Hitler, or Nero, or …

And yet, we have choices.

And those choices can not be emphasized enough.

You see, I would remind you that kings and rulers and armies and principalities … all of the powerful nations … and weapons … and all of the greed … and lust … and fear … None of these will win in the long term.

It is always interesting to me that the broken would blame the very thing that will save us.

Joshua said it pretty well:

Joshua 24 15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

When God gives us an option, we would do well to accept it.  It is the best option we are going to get.

In The Name of the Father and the

Son and the Holy Spirit.  Amen.
